Authentic Pico de Gallo! Just like the real stuff.
Difficulty: Level 1 (easy peasy)
Hands On Time: 10 minutes
Every time I go to Mexico, I fall in love all over again with Pico de Gallo. Breakfast? Pico de Gallo on my chilaquiles. Lunch? Chips + Pico de Gallo. Dinner? Pico de Gallo all over whatever Mexican dish I choose to get. And then I get back home, and I start having withdrawals from all the Pico de Gallo I don’t have.
But, fear not, because it is EASY to make! Just 5 ingredients: tomatoes, onions, cilantro, serrano pepper and a lime. And 4 tools: a sharp knife, cutting board, bowl and spoon. <– you barely even have to get your kitchen dirty to make this. Just chop up those ingredients (okay, squeeze the lime, don’t chop the lime), and you have yourself a nice hearty bowl of Pico de Gallo to use however you would like. Personally, I think the serrano pepper is the secret ingredient to making this taste really authentic. But you can substitute the serrano with a jalapeño if you prefer.
This Pico de Gallo recipe just happens to be an ingredient in this —> Guacamole. So you might as well just whip up some of the BEST ever guac while you’re at it.
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- ¾ cup chopped onions
- ½ cup chopped cilantro
- 1 diced serrano pepper (can substitute with jalapeño)
- Juice from ½ lime
- Mix all ingredients into a small bowl.
- Serve with chips or as a topping to any Mexican dish.
